The Waiting Dragon
The Waiting Dragon by Ria Rosa Q, written on ??/??/03
A dragon waits upon his territory,
Watching as the clouds reveal a bright moon.
Its leathery red wings ready for flight.
But it remained still, waiting for someone.
It gazed up to watch the small stars appear,
And recalled a time when they were younger.
Oh how the world had greatly changed since then!
He grieved, but remained, waiting for someone.
He remembered long nights of cool, light wind.
He had smelt the fragrance of coming spring.
He felt the warm breath of days now long gone.
Yet he remained and waited for someone.
A promise unknown still burns in his heart.
A promise known only to him and time.
A promise of someone returning to him.
The promise that made him wait for someone.
A man had gone out to fight in a war
A man promised that he'd return soon.
But still unkown to his faithful friend,
The man had long passed, and will never return.
A dragon still waits in his territory,
And recalled a time when stars were younger.
But the promise stayed in his faithful heart
And forever waits for the return of his friend.
Author's notes:I had this figurine of a cute smiling baby dragon that
was given to me on my 13th birthday by a friend. I used to play with my imagination
that this dragon was faithful and was waiting for something or someone... even though who
he's waiting for is unknown. So I made this free verse to tell the story as I
imagined it.
